These days, the highest temperature reaches around 35 degrees. It’s scary weather to walk outside. There is nothing more difficult than this. It’s like riding 메이저놀이터in a car heated in the scorching sun. Everyone must have faced the experience of opening the car door but not being able to sit on the seat.
In order to move, the temperature inside the car must be lowered. Most of them open the windows and turn on the air conditioning. This is the most effective method, but it is time consuming and energy consuming.
Summer weather is getting hotter due to global warming. In preparation for this, research and development to minimize the heat received by automobiles is being conducted in various places.
Hyundai Motor Group recently introduced that it has developed a ‘transparent radiation cooling film’. It boasts that it is a new technology that blocks incoming heat and removes heat from inside. If it is commercialized, let’s find out how much the internal temperature can be lowered through this week’s Tech Catch-up.
Blocked twice, lowered by ‘7 degrees’
First, let’s look at what ‘radiation cooling’ is. For example, if you place a hot object next to a cold object, its temperature will drop. This is because heat flows from a hot place to a cold place. At this time, if there is a medium, it is called conduction or convection, and if there is no medium, it is called radiation. Radiant cooling, which is an expanded concept here, refers to a phenomenon in which the temperature drops while releasing heat through heat transfer called radiation.
Hyundai Motor Group explains that it has created a ‘transparent radiation cooling film (hereinafter referred to as cooling film)’ based on the principle of radiation cooling. It is said to have two layers, one to emit internal heat and the other to reflect solar heat. It is different from general tinting film that blocks only solar heat. Hyundai Motor Group is said to be the first in the world to develop a film that can manage heat in both directions.
Performance has been proven. The Hyundai Motor Group Basic Materials Research Center measured the indoor temperature by attaching a cooling film and a tinting film to each of the two Genesis G80s during the daytime when sunlight is the strongest . It was confirmed that the interior temperature of the vehicle with the cooling film was 6.89 degrees lower than that of the tinting film.
There was also a large temperature difference between parts under the same conditions. The head temperature differential widened up to 10.98 degrees. The temperature difference of the crash pad, which is a frame that surrounds various electronic equipment such as the dashboard and central display of a car, was measured at up to 15.38 degrees.
Commercialization soon after reconfirmation this summer
It is said that this effect can be achieved with only film without starting the car, so voices are coming out from within the Hyundai Motor Group that it should be commercialized as soon as possible.
The development team plans to recheck the cooling performance by installing a sunroof with a cooling film on the vehicle this summer. If the excellence is proven, the plan is to review mass production immediately.
